Volunteering

Be. Do. Renew.
Zvangas is a quiet, nature-rooted place for renewal and healing in the Latvian countryside — a space where it is possible to pause, feel yourself, and return to what truly matters.

We invite volunteers who feel drawn to simplicity, a mindful way of living, and inner work to become part of this space. This is not a tourism experience or a conventional volunteer position. It is an opportunity to slow down, empty your “cup,” and be present — with yourself, with nature, and within a shared living space — by offering your time, attention, and energy to the life that shapes Zvangas as a place for conscious living, renewal, and shared support.

Volunteering at Zvangas is about balance between work and presence, between giving and receiving, about caring for the environment and for people. It offers the chance to experience a simple, flowing rural life, to take part in daily household and communal activities, while still preserving space for your own inner process, reflection, and personal renewal.

Daily Rhythm and the Volunteer’s Role

Life at Zvangas unfolds in a calm, nature-based rhythm, with respect for shared space and silence. The role of the volunteer includes:

  • Maintaining the spaces and keeping order
  • Food preparation and kitchen duties
  • Caring for and tending to the animals
  • Looking after and improving the environment
  • Supporting daily processes and small projects
  • Contributing your own skills to the shared space

Presence, responsibility, and respect for the shared environment are essential. From volunteers, we expect the ability to be self-reliant, to honor agreements, and to actively participate in creating and maintaining the shared living space.

What to Expect at Zvangas

Volunteering offers an opportunity to:

  • Live in a calm, nature-surrounded environment
  • Take part in daily household and communal activities
  • Learn basic skills in animal care
  • Learn basic skills in gardening and crafts
  • Become familiar with healthy nutrition through practical daily life and habits
  • Preserve space for silence, reflection, and personal work

Volunteers do not take part in cleansing or detox practices, in order to maintain a stable work rhythm and not disrupt the daily processes at Zvangas. Participation in these practices is possible before or after the volunteering period, under specific conditions and for an additional fee.

Who the Volunteer Program Is For

This experience is intended for people who:

  • Feel comfortable in nature and in a simple environment
  • Are open to a mindful way of living and to silence
  • Are seeking depth, personal renewal, and an inner rhythm

Zvangas is not suitable for those who are looking for an active social environment, constant guidance, or entertainment.

After meeting Uldis Santjago on my path, I have already visited Zvangas twice. Uldis has an exceptional ability to create space — he listens with his heart and soul, welcomes a person exactly as they are, and creates an environment in which one can truly engage in self-discovery. I felt deeply welcomed, safe, and loved.

Continue what you have begun, Uldis. I hope that many people will find their way to Zvangas.

We all present to the world an image we have created for it, yet such lightness enters when we no longer carry that image and dare to reveal our hearts. This stage of the journey is not easy, and thank you for creating a place that supports people on this path. Because when a worldly identity collapses, everything connected to it often collapses as well — at times even family no longer feels like support. People may not yet know their own hearts, nor themselves without roles and masks in the world, and in those moments it is truly precious that we can be there for one another.

If you are seeking a space to heal and reconnect with yourself, nature, and life, this is the place. A place where you can breathe fully again, where food nourishes the soul, and where, through different practices, you return to your essence. In peace and self-acceptance, time begins to slow down, and the rhythm of life once again aligns with the rhythm of your heart. This is something that can only be felt through experience.
