Our Rural Homestead Family of Residents

Chickens and Geese

On our homestead, all the birds live together and are well bonded. We are home to hens of various interesting breeds, each with her own personality and even her own name. We will share their individual stories separately.

Living alongside the chickens are two geese — Sprīdītis and Lienīte. They are usually alert and act as guardians of all our birds, taking care of the overall safety of the flock.

In daily life, the birds stay within their own enclosed yard, designed to keep them protected. On rare occasions, when the birds are let out into the open yard beyond the enclosure, it has happened that a hawk from the surrounding area has taken one of them. For this reason, safety is very important to us, and we approach the birds’ freedom with responsibility and care.
Our guests and those staying in the countryside apartments are warmly invited to take part in feeding the birds, collecting eggs, and observing them.

Watching the birds here often becomes an unplanned moment of pause.

We have noticed ourselves that after a busy, full day, stepping into the chicken yard naturally makes one slow down. Simply observing how they bustle about, scratch the ground, occasionally “chat” among themselves, and share their everyday rhythm.

This presence is calming and balancing — without demands, without hurry. The birds live in their own rhythm, and by observing them, it becomes easier for a person to shift gears, return to themselves, and simply be.

Pollija and Kisa — our cats

Pollija is our feline lady — a senior cat with her own sense of order and clear preferences. She carefully chooses whom she allows into her arms and embraces. At times she may seem a little aloof, but in truth Pollija is deeply present and attentive to everything that happens in the home. She chooses an indoor life, in safety and calm, only rarely peeking into the wider world beyond the house walls.

Kisa is Pollija’s complete opposite — curious, brave, and always on the move. She ventures on short and long explorations around the homestead, observing, investigating, and hunting mice. Kisa enjoys interacting with people and seeks out affection, while still maintaining her independent spirit.

Together, Pollija and Kisa form a balance — stillness and movement, presence and adventure. They are an integral part of our daily rhythm and the life of the homestead.

Horses

Two horse sisters live on our homestead — Deizija and Aluna. They are growing through relationships in which nature is the primary teacher, and trust, presence, and play form the foundation of everyday life.

Deizija is the older sister. She often takes the lead, observes what is happening around her, and carries a quiet confidence. In her interactions with people, Deizija is patient, attentive, and willing to teach — often far more than one might notice at first.

Aluna is still learning, exploring, and drawing inspiration from her older sister. At times she even copies her mischief, which is simply part of the growing process. She lives in movement, curiosity, and becoming.

Here, the horses grow freely, learning through relationships with one another, play, and respectful presence. Our intention is to raise them as therapy horses — in a way that their presence can help people relax, meet themselves, and simply be. This path is still unfolding, as the horses themselves are still growing and discovering the world.

The presence of horses often becomes a space of silence — a place where words are unnecessary and feelings speak for themselves.
